The Agency Wait

March 6, 2018

In our last post I explained that for us, we decided to use agency adoption (the first time). So after all the certification and clearances, the next step was putting our profile together. This is the only book that is shown to expectant moms. I put my heart and soul into this book, working on it non stop for many days and sleepless nights. I was so stressed that it wouldn't portray who we really were. That a birth mother would select another couple with a more appealing book.

Our experience with that first agency was not the best. We waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited some more. We put all our eggs in one basket, we were at the mercy of the waiting list that we were on. Even when we finally got to the top...we still waited. The agency would tell us "i'm sorry you haven't been selected". I called and emailed all the time, it was such a difficult wait.  In the end we became very vocal...they did tell us at the start the average wait with their agency was less then two years and here we were a year past that. Each day, each week and every month that turned into years... I felt so on edge and deflated.

Although IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT and I wouldn't change anything, because this was the plan God intended for our family and how we were blessed with our amazing daughter...

What you should know, if you are looking to begin the adoption process... although scary and overwhelming, attorney adoption would be my recommendation. This way you are the one in charge; of how much exposure, detail and effort goes into the process for your growing family in the timeframe you expect.

Check back soon for more on our experiences with adopting. I will be posting frequently. TY :))
